“I was working with Dr. Marco Cinnirella on examining the relationship of social media use and general well-being during my summer internship. I was also working with his PhD student Samuel Fairlamb on exploring the psychological mechanisms involved with prejudice against Muslims in the UK.”

“I am very fortunate that the work I was doing as an intern within Dr. Cinnirella’s team is related to my 3rd Year Lab Report in terms of both topic and methodology. As part of my internship I supported PhD student Zsuzsanna Dobrontei, looking at how National Identity might affect perceptions of Government Surveillance. My internship has provided an outstanding opportunity to gain valuable insight into what is required for this level of research and so will benefit me greatly when I commence my own data collection and analysis.”

“I have been lucky to work with Dr. Marco Cinnirella and his PhD student Samuel Fairlamb on studies to do with islamophobia social networking. This included using terror management theory by applying the effect of death related words on perception of muslim threat and national identity. I have also helped with the project focusing on the effect of social networking sites on wellbeing/depression. In practice it meant doing interesting tasks such as literature research, data coding or even creating experimental surveys using new research software such as Qualtrics.”

“Helping Sam Fairlamb in his study on media’s impact on Islamophobia has been a very interesting and unique experience that has given me an insight to how actual scientific research happens in the real world. I have found this opportunity particularly useful because due to the nature of the work assigned to us I have learnt advanced analytical and research skills that will be a great help in my studying process during my final year.”
